While learning how to do a headstand we face many emotions. The first usually being one of improbability, the second being fear. This is vaguely familiar territory to us all, but when faced with these emotions we usually turn on our heel and head in the oposite direction.
When we practice with an experienced yoga teacher we are guided slowly through the process and we bring awareness to our body: how we use the shoulder muscles and elongate the neck for example. We face our fear and find that we there´s an easy way to dispel tension in the body and the mind.
We learn to employ these skills to stay balanced, focussed and strong without being rigid. Breath by breath, practice by practice we raise up into a perfectly straight headstand.
Before long you´ve turned your world upside down and that you´ve actually enjoyed the experience!
